Mammoth Lakes lights up in winter. Despite the closing of fishing season and the onset of the snow, Mammoth turns into a prime destination for mountain-loving visitors from all over the world. The fall colors glow with immense beauty between the summer season closing up and winter taking hold. In early November, the winter season kicks into full gear. Visitors come for the acclaimed skiing, the adventurous snowboarding, and scenic gondola trips to the top of the area’s most premiere summits.
But nothing is more magical than the Night of Lights in Mammoth Mountain. Ushering in the winter season, Nights of Lights in Mammoth Lakes coats the region in a stunning and heartwarming glow- and you can’t miss it.
Details of Nights of Lights
Fireworks glimmer and glow over Mammoth on December 15th. The official launch location of the event is 1000 Canyon Boulevard, Mammoth Lakes, CA. The Night of Lights fireworks display is expected to be its usual spectacular event. It’a night to remember, for sure!
This event welcomes the winter visitors in Mammoth, where they come for the famous winter views, the special year-round fishing, and, of course, the world-renowned skiing.
The finest fireworks views can be found atop the Canyon Lodge. A designated rooftop viewing area is your best place to see the spectacle. A cash bar offers grab-and-go snacks as well as drinks for you to get warm and cozy. The rooftop opens at 5 p.m. for a small party gathering leading up to the grand event.
The fireworks close the event, but the mountainside celebration leading up to them is remarkable and fun for the whole family. Live music, a torchlight parade, and various kids activities will keep everyone engaged for the day. Guests can jump on snowmobile rides around the grounds or take photos with Santa Claus.
There are activities indoors and outdoors, so you can go where you feel comfortable. Live music begins at 5:30 p.m. and continues to 6:45 p.m. Photos with Santa and Woolly open at 7:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Canyon Lodge.
The last gondola ride to the lodge is at 10 p.m. The gondola ride and entrance to the Canyon Lodge are free. Various additional activities, such as snowmobiling, may require small payment.
Parking and Accessibility
You can see the fireworks from locations nearest to the Canyon Lodge, but not in and around the Village. The crowds can be immense for the small and modest village town, so prepare for transportation and parking ahead of time.
Firstly, free public transportation is available from an assortment of locations directly to the Nights of Lights. You will have to review schedule times. There is limited parking available at the Canyon Lodge, but guests who come early may be able to park within the designated area at 1000 Canyon Blvd.
If the Canyon Lodge parking area is filled, paid parking is available in the Village Plaza. Guests at the Village Plaza can take the Village Gondola to the Canyon Lodge.
Guests can gather inside the Canyon Lodge for some added comfort and view the festivities from there, but more views are found at the Village area.
It should come as no surprise that the Night of Lights spectacular may be cold. Come prepared with thick coats, warm cocoa, and a nice spot.
