Rainbow Falls. Rainbow Falls is a towering waterfall located 2.5 miles (4 k) from Devils Postpile National Monument ranger station. Named for the rainbows of lights created by the fall’s mist, Rainbow Falls is the tallest waterfall situated on the Middle Fork of the San Joaquin River. Rainbow Falls measures 101 feet (31 m) tall. Twin Lakes (Mammoth Lakes Basin). Situated at 8,540 feet (2603 m), Twin Lakes is a remarkable alpine lake located near the town of Mammoth Lakes. It is the first in a series of small lakes in the Mammoth Lakes Basin. The lake is fed in part by the spectacular 300-foot (91 m) Twin Falls waterfall.
